How to designate a student as GATE in the SMUHSD?
In the SMUHSD students are identified by teachers, counselors, parents and on-site-coordinators as gited and talented (GATE) in one or more of five categories:
- intellectual ability
- creative ability
- specific academic ability / high achievement
- leadership ability
- outstanding talent in visual or performing arts
Students may be pre-identified by their elementary school district. The SMUHSD has an opt in policy for SMUHSD GATE designation. If you receive an invitation letter to the SMUHSD GATE, you need to sign and return the letter to be in the program.
Contact the Gifted Student site coordinator at your school to be designated a GATE student.
