Summer Enrichment: Introduction to Forensic Science- Description
- This 4-day workshop will introduce students to three aspects of forensic science namely, crime scene documentation, laboratory tools and techniques to process evidence, and court room testimony to determine the guilt or innocence of the defendant.
Students will process a vehicle (crime scene), owned by a missing person, Erica Holmes. Her boyfriend, Marcus O’Neill, is the primary suspect. Forensic evidence in the form of blood, bullets, trace evidence, skeletal remains, and DNA will be recovered from the vehicle and processed in the lab to reveal what may have happened.
On the final day, the students will present their evidence in a mock trial simulation. Students are required to bring a laboratory notebook, electronic device (cell phone), and due to safety requirement will be required to wear close-toed shoes. Parents are encouraged to attend the last day of class to witness the mock trial and final verdict.
Class includes lunch period; please bring your own lunch. Registration includes cost of all lab supplies.
