GATE Parents Group

Our mission is to promote enrichment activities for gifted and talented students in the San Mateo Union High School District. We offer programs for students, parents and teachers.

Our Board

• The GATE Parents Group is a non-profit, all volunteer organization. We are parents of GATE identified students in the SMUHSD and we could use your help. If interested in learning more about us or joining our board, contact president@gateparents.com

Enrichment Classes

• We offer enrichment classes: SAT test preparation, college essay writing and summer enrichment. Classes are offered to all students and involve a fee. SMUHSD GATE students receive early registration priority.

Grants & Programs

• We fund teacher proposals for innovative programs that enrich GATE (and non-GATE) students.
• We provide discretionary funds to the principals at each school site.
• We fund field trips, events and speakers organized by the district and school site GATE coordinators and targeted to GATE students.
• We fund clubs for challenging programs such as Model UN, mock trial or Robotics.
• We support the professional development of SMUHSD educators by subsidizing attendance at conferences focused on instructional techniques of benefit to GATE students.

Events

• We sponsor lectures, screenings, and programs on topics of interest to students and parents. Free and open to all.
• We sponsor a student panel of current college students composed of SMUHSD alumni to help current high school students learn what to expect in their first semester of college. Free and open to all. Held around January 1st.

The GATE Parents Group was established in 1995. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation.
